Literature Text

Rebecka stood in the Ante-chamber for the longest time dreading the end of her prayer. What would she find when she walked in that room? Fear, anger, and a bit of nausea came over her then at the memory of it all. Her heart had been broken, perhaps irreparably that night. Her nerves were shot, and she hadn’t slept much in the past year. Her dreams of Jessie, that haunting man and her pregnancy were all swirling in her mind. How would she explain any of this? She didn’t know how. Or if she even should. No one had seen her. She could just claim that the pregnancy came out of a moment of grief when she had given in to her neighbor’s advances. A sweet boy named Geoff; he had always cared for her. Thought in their early teens, that relationship had developed into a bond that was more sibling then lover. No one knew him though, and Geoff even offered to care for the baby as his own. It would be easy to pull off. Stormy would know though. She was hard to hide things from. She straightened up and brushed herself off. Now or never she thought to herself and she walked through the curtain.
As she entered the common room, she saw Stormy looking about ready to cry, Jacob and was that really Robbie?? Damn, he looked like death on legs. They had walked over to embrace Stormy. She walked over quietly and cleared her throat.  They all turned and looked at her then. After a moment, they were all embracing and sharing more tears. Stormy gave her an odd look, and Cocoa knew she knew. She begged her silently to say nothing. Not yet. The time was not right, and Stormy understood. She would say nothing. Stormy growled to herself though. Something was wrong. That baby’s heartbeat, though yet so small, had the same rapid joyful pattern as Jessie’s.
